Late March Snowscape
This Oil painting depicts an outcropping of precambrian shield at Mistik Creek, near Cranberry Portage, Mb.  I managed to find my way up there a couple of months ago to visit old friends and the countryside where I was born.  I took many photographs and plan on painting some of the scenes I came across.

Mistik Creek

Mistik Creek
This is an oil painting of Mistik Creek, near Flin Flon, Manitoba. It was a favourite haunt of mine when I lived in The Pas, Mb.  Going back up that way in a few weeks to visit some good friends, really looking forward to seeing the North country again!

Revisions to an older painting

Some of you may remember this painting from almost a year ago now.  The last time I worked on it I was not quite satisfied with the outcome, I felt it needed "something".  Well today I got out my handy dandy pocket sketch book and made a tiny thumbnail or two of other possible solutions to my problem.  The painting above is the result.  For now I shall give it another rest and see if it speaks to me further.

                                              Golden light glimpsed through spruce
                                                               The forest sighs

Sleeping Giants

The title "Sleeping Giants" was something that I picked before I began this pastel.  In my visits to the Mistik Creek and area I am always struck by the beauty of these Pre-Cambrian rocks protruding from the earth that they are so much a part of....  In the winter they are covered up in the most beautiful ways, the snow dresses them with soft blankets that conform to their profiles perfectly.  Imagine that, nature being perfect!  Hope you enjoy looking at the painting as much as I did creating it.

Blue and Gold

After doing the last watercolour of Mistik Creek I was inspired to try my hand at another, this time a combination of watercolour and pastel.  I rather like the effect for this particular scene as the two mediums complement each other in the water and snow.  Its pretty likely I will try this again!

Mistik Waters

Sunday and I'm in the studio for a bit.  I had an urge to visit Mistik Creek in my mind and this watercolour is the result of that journey.  That wonderful creek holds a special place in my psyche and I am eternally grateful for its existence.  The painting started off as a nifty little "Notan" sketch in three values done with felt markers.  I like it almost as much as the watercolour.

Painting what you know

I have the good fortune to have my studio back. ( I've been without it for over a year now because of the move from The Pas, Mb. to Manitou Beach, SK.) What a wonderful place to be again! I was a bit nervous about getting back to work in there but I decided to do a pastel or two to get back into the swing of things. I chose to paint what I am familiar with, Mistik Creek, which has beautiful water, rocks and trees which are subjects that I know. That being said, there is much more to explore and learn from these subjects and I look forward to that with relish.

Rocks and things

This oil painting was done in August. The place is Mistik Creek, Manitoba, and as some of you may know is one of my favorite places to paint. I suppose it is a power spot for me, the geography is a magnetic draw and I never tire of exploring and painting the place. My thanks to Karen Clark for purchasing it, I know it is going to a good home
